Foreword
Giving full play to the late development advantages, Chinese Digital Terrestrial Multimedia Broadcasting(DTMB) standard has adopted a large number of latest technology of wireless digital communication, which is a new original broadband transmission system possessing a number of fundamental technology inventions. DTMB standard supports the fixed, mobile and handheld receptions on the same platform. Compared with the existing international standards, it has be improved obviously in terms of spectrum efficiency, fast synchronization, receiving sensitivity, supports for high-definition mobile reception and future business expansion, and the overall performance of system. The main features of DTMB system are as follows:
1. Using original modulation technology of time domain synchronous-orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (TDS-OFDM). Through the hybrid processing of time domain and frequency domain, TDS-OFDM allows the fast code acquisition and robust synchronous tracking simply and conveniently, forming an independent core technology different from the multi carrier technology in Europe and Japan.
2. The high protection synchronous transmission technology based on PN sequence spread spectrum technology, using filled OFDM guard interval, leads to increase of the spectrum utilization efficiency by 10%, with asynchronous protection gain of more than 20dB. At the same time,it allows convenient and reliable synchronization and channel estimation, and can be extended for the base station identification and the terminal positioning.
3. Fast channel estimation technique. The new TDS-OFDM channel estimation technique allows for the fast channel estimation with the orthogonal correlation and Fourier transform, improving the mobile reception performance.
4. An error correction technology combining the forward error correction coding and phase mapping together. It's a new maximum mapping technology of cascaded error correction coding and minimum Euclidean distance, allowing the improvement more than 10% in the signal-to-noise threshold using multi carrier technology.
5. A frame structure synchronized with the absolute time. Transmission protocol is designed with a complex frame structure synchronized with the absolute time, which is convenient for automatically waking up function setting, thus saving the power, and supporting portable reception; and the mechanism synchronized with the absolute time is beneficial for the function control of synchronization signal transmission of single frequency network, allowing easy configuration of the synchronous equipment in single frequency network.
